Area Attractions
Area attractions close to the Airport include many fun and exciting places to go and things to see. Examples include historic monuments, cultural arts, athletic events and more. Local points of interest are the El Paso Convention, Performing Arts Center, Fort Bliss military, the University of Texas at El Paso and the Texas Tech University Health Science Center. Visitors can enjoy an array of golf courses, parks and outdoor recreation venues close by. The surrounding area offers a variety of shopping malls, antique shops, restaurants, cocktail lounges, cafes and coffee shops.

Revitalization
The El Paso Planning Department has implemented a revitalization project that aims to make El Paso a more livable, friendly and attractive place to live. The plan was adopted in 2012, and since then has completed a new baseball stadium, created parks and renovated public spaces. Although the plan centered largely around the downtown area, it also covered surrounding areas with endeavors that involved the demolition of dilapidated buildings, widening freeways with extra lanes, adding overpasses, beautification efforts, planting roadside trees and shrubs, and upgrading flood control and disaster management systems.

The Plaza Theatre opened on September 12, 1930. It was advertised as the largest theatre of its kind between Dallas and Los Angeles.
